Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of folklore traditions in the tale of I.S. Shmelev "Preobrazhenets". The transformation of the folk and poetic principles in a literary work is connected with ideological-aesthetic attitudes of the writer. Following the tradition impacts the use of recognizable images, motifs and plot twists, the nature of evaluation and stylistic features.
