Abstract

The article is devoted to one of the most popular subject of Bactrian art of Hellenistic period – the portrait of Alexander the Great. Investigated works of art, including coin iconography, allow identifying the main trends in the development of the image of Alexander for a long time. Analysis of the depicting of a warrior on the gold plate from Tillyatepa (Afghanistan) reveals a rather unusual topic namely the image of Alexander-Ares for the region of Bactria.
