- Abstract
- The authors publish a hoard of Late Bosporan copper staters found in 2012 in Kytaion. A bag with coins was placed in a stove on the territory of the central town sanctuary. The hoard consists of 111 coins of three Bosporan rulers: Thothorses (32), Radamsades (5) and Rheskuporis VI (74). The latest coin in the hoard, as well as in the case of the 1951 Patraeos hoard, is a stater dated to the year 633 of the Bosporan era (AD 336). The Kytaion hoard belongs to the group of 24 hoards containing the coins of the listed kings and the last issues of Rheskuporis VI. All these hoards, with the exception of those from Il’ichyovskoe Fortress (1975) and Ksizovo-19A Settlement, were deposited between AD 326/327 and AD 341/342. These hoards are connected with the military activity in the region, and their mass deposition can be accounted for by the Sarmatian and Alanian invasions of the Bosporus in the 320–340s AD.
