- Abstract
The author analyses a fragment of Naturalis Historia of Pliny the Elder (VI. 69) and comes to the conclusion that it deals with the extreme South of Indostan (modern states of Tamilnadu and Kerala). In particular, Pliny mentions the region Punnadu under the name of Monaedes. It was also mentioned by Ptolemy as a region where precious stones (beryl) were mined.
