Two hoards found in 2009 during the excavation of the citadel of Artezian site in the Eastern Crimea (destroyed at the beginning of the Roman-Bosporan War of 45–49 AD) are published in the article. The hoards contain 244 bronze Bosporan coins of the late 1st century BC – early 1st century AD, 10 silver denarii of Augustus and Tiberius and various gold, silver and bronze jewelry and glass vessels. The finds confirm the historical data concerning the middle of the 1st century AD and make it possible to draw up a more detailed chronology of jewelry and glass objects, represented in the hoards by some rare highly artistic specimens of Bosporan, East Mediterranean or Roman production. Of special interest is a well-preserved Mainz type gladius found in the context of the hoards. The finds are the first monuments discovered in the European part of Bosporus to reflect the early phase of the Roman-Bosporan War of AD 45–49. The material is unique for its variety and comparatively precise date of hoarding connected with major events of Bosporan and Mediterranean history.
