Abstract

The recently found inscription SEG LVIII. 370 proves that in Polybius’ time the synodos  of the Achaeans was a representative body and therefore not people’s assembly in the true sense of the word. There are also some arguments against the assumption that the synodoi were council meetings. The synodos  could have been a large meeting of poleis’ delegations, not permanent but complying with proportional representation.
