- Abstract
The author undertakes a new approach to the Paraphrase of the Gospel according to John, a poem of the 5th century AD usually ascribed to Nonnos of Panopolis. Analyzing eight various compound epithets having close meaning («life-giving») and comparing their usage and contexts in the Paraphrase and Dionysiaca (Nonnos' famous work), the author comes to the conclusion that both epics were composed by the same poet.
