Abstract

The cultural flourishing of Athens in the 5th century BC must be considered as an example of a more general phenomenon. Cultural acme begins when the creatively productive group of the society comes to the leading positions in the world which the group considers as significant. The outstanding achievements of 5th century BC Athens show close connection with historical and social circumstances characteristic of such periods.
