Abstract

The author makes an attempt to sum up the observations considering Augustine's use and citation of exegetical sources in his sermons. It appears that earlier exegetical texts were not considered by Augustine as a source of authoritative exegesis or obligatory reference. He used them eclectically and judiciously according to his own pastoral needs and hermeneutic presuppositions.
