Abstract
The article discusses the notions of the Cossack and Cossack traditions developed in the Dukhobor sect. The author examines why certain elements of the Cossack culture were borrowed by the Dukhobor sect. She argues that these elements were being rethought and used to consolidate the community, strengthen its sense of dignity and self-esteem, and ultimately provide favorable conditions for the successful reproduction of its own culture.
