Аннотация
Автор ставит вопрос о связи археологии с идеологией национализма. Определив национализм как идеологию и общественную практику, делающие нацию субъектом политики и отдающие национальным интересам приоритет над всеми остальными, он утверждает, что для национализма ценность археологии определяется ее способностью предъявлять материальные свидетельства длительной культурной преемственности и связи с предками. Это ставит совершенно по-новому вопрос об ответственности археологов и их роли в "формировании идентичностей", ибо теперь мы имеем дело с "множественным прошлым". Особенно сложно, если речь идет о спорных территориях или борьбе за историческое наследие, когда между соседними группами ведется борьба за древнее наследие, и каждая из сторон пытается приписать местные древние памятники именно своим предкам.
