Abstract
The article examines the history of emergence of Kalmyk communities in European countries and the USA as a result of two emigration waves in the 20 th century. It discusses social and political activities of Kalmyk emigres in Western countries and the capacity of Kalmyk diasporas for adaptation in the new states.
