Abstract
The article is devoted to the role of the Slavophil Alexander Kireev in the process of formation of the independent Bulgaria and to his views on the development of Russian- Bulgarian relations. Furthermore, his path is traced, from the active assistance to the national liberation movement on the Balkans in 1862-1878 to the sharp criticism of the foreign and interior policy of Prince Alexander Battenberg and Prince Ferdinand of Saxe- Coburg. Finally, it considers mistakes and failures of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bulgarian policy in 1878-1910.
